"I chose this rug for its bright earth tones since I was looking for something to brighten up a dark entryway. It has a silky shimmer to the weave which is just beautiful. It's easy to keep clean. I just shake it. Vacuums easily too."

Sanjay Goel started Rajdhani Dhurries in 1972 in the historical city of Agra in north India. At that time, Agra was seeing a boom in the handloom dhurrie industry and there were large communities of weavers in and around Agra working in this field.
Sanjay dropped out of school in the 9th grade and has been working as a weaver ever since . In its heyday, Rajdhani Dhurries was employing 250 weavers to meet market demand. In the 1990s, the handloom industry witnessed a slump in orders, primarily because of the introduction of machine- made rugs. Today, Sanjay barely has work for 20 artisans in his workshop.
Despite the odds stacked against him, Sanjay can’t see himself doing anything else. He is one of the few producers to have weathered the downturn in the dhurrie industry. Looking back, he regrets leaving school at such an early age. Realizing the importance of education, he has ensured his children don’t follow in his footsteps but complete their schooling. His son is currently studying for his Bachelor’s degree in business while his daughter is soon to complete grade 12.
